Double and Upholstered Beds for the Bedroom
The bed is the largest piece of furniture in the bedroom and the only one you use daily for several hours. Therefore, when choosing, not only the appearance of the headboard matters, but also the dimensions, type of frame, and whether you need storage space.
At Eye on Design, you will find designer upholstered and wooden beds – single, double, and continental.
What bed size should you choose?
The most commonly chosen size for a double bed is 160×200 cm. If the bedroom allows, consider 180×200 cm – the additional twenty centimeters significantly improves the sleeping comfort for two people, especially if someone tends to toss and turn.
Leave a minimum of 60–70 cm of space around the bed on each side that you will approach. A length of 200 cm is sufficient for heights up to about 185 cm – for taller individuals, it’s worth looking for a model that is 210 cm.
Bed with a Storage Box
In apartments without a large wardrobe, a storage box under the bed solves a real problem – it holds duvets, pillows, and seasonal bedding. The frame, lifted by gas struts, raises easily with one hand.
Make sure there is enough space in front of the bed for the frame to be fully lifted – this is a common issue in small bedrooms.
Upholstered or Wooden?
Upholstered beds have a soft headboard, which is comfortable to lean against while reading, and they help to soundproof the room. However, they require vacuuming of the upholstery. Wooden beds are easier to maintain and fit well in natural and Japandi interiors.
Regardless of your choice, check if the frame is included and whether a separate mattress will be needed.
Bedroom Arrangement
Place nightstands on either side of the bed – it’s most convenient if their top is at the height of the mattress or a few centimeters higher. Instead of lamps on the surface, wall sconces mounted on both sides work well.
A chest of drawers can hold folded clothes, and a rug extending 60–80 cm from under the bed will warm up the entire space. The look can be completed with a bedspread and pillows. You can find the complete arrangement in the Bedroom collection.
Beds – Frequently Asked Questions
Which double bed to choose – 160 or 180 cm?
160 cm is standard and sufficient for most bedrooms. 180 cm offers significantly more comfort but requires a room that allows space for access on both sides.
How much space should be left around the bed?
A minimum of 60–70 cm on each side that you approach – this is enough to pass freely and make the bed.
Is it worth paying extra for a storage box?
Yes, if there is no wardrobe in the bedroom. The storage box holds duvets and seasonal bedding, effectively replacing an entire shelf in the closet.
