In a large living room, the modular sofa does not have to be against the wall – when placed freely, it defines a relaxation area, and you can place a console table behind it.

For large upholstery surfaces, muted colors are safer – beiges and grays – while you can add character with cushions and a throw. In homes with children and pets, fabrics with a tight weave, like corduroy, will be more practical than delicate looped materials.
