Sofas, Sectionals, and Beds
Seating furniture and beds are the largest pieces in your home – they determine the layout of the entire room, not just its appearance. In this category, we have gathered everything you can sit on or sleep in: from compact sofas to king-size beds.
Living Area
The foundation of the living room consists of sofas and sectionals. A sectional provides more seating and utilizes the corner of the room, while a classic sofa fits more easily into smaller spaces and can be paired with an armchair.
Modular sofas offer the most flexibility – you can arrange them from separate elements and change the layout after rearranging. For lounging with your legs stretched out, chaise lounges are perfect, and for additional seating, ottomans work well.
Sleeping Function
If the furniture is also meant for guests, choose sofa beds or a sectional with a sleeping function. When selecting, check three things: the folding mechanism, the evenness of the sleeping surface, and how much space the furniture needs in front of it when extended.
Bedroom Area
In the bedroom, the foundation consists of beds – most commonly in the size of 160×200 cm, and for larger bedrooms, 180×200 cm. It’s advisable to leave 60–70 cm of space around the bed on each side for easy access.
Choose a mattress that suits your weight, along with a headboard and nightstands. Complete the look with bedding and a bedspread.
Fabrics and Maintenance
For upholstered furniture, durability is determined by the density of the weave. In homes with children and pets, corduroy and tightly woven fabrics perform better than delicate, looped bouclé. A classic, easy-to-clean option is leather models.
Arrangement
In the living room, it’s ideal to place the seating furniture with a coffee table about 40–45 cm away, a rug that accommodates the front legs, and a floor lamp next to the armrest.
Frequently Asked Questions
Sofa or Sectional?
A sectional provides more seating and better utilizes the corner of the room. A sofa is more flexible when changing arrangements.
What bed for an average bedroom?
Most commonly, 160×200 cm. Consider the 180 cm version if there is space for access on both sides.
Is a sofa bed suitable for everyday sleeping?
It depends on the mechanism. A simple setup is sufficient for occasional guests, but for daily use, choose a model with an even sleeping surface.
