The tabletop is a piece of furniture where dimensions matter the most – and the most common mistake is buying a model that fits the wall rather than the number of people and the surrounding space.
Dining Table
It is assumed that each person requires about 60 cm of tabletop width. A table for four people should be 120–140 cm, for six 160–180 cm, and for eight 200 cm or more. It's advisable to leave 80–100 cm around the table to comfortably pull out a chair.
If there are fewer of you on a daily basis but you have guests occasionally, the best choice is extendable round tables – they combine the absence of sharp corners with the possibility of expansion. An alternative is classic round tables.
Tabletop Material
Wooden tables have a warm feel and can be renewed by sanding. Glass tables visually disappear, making them a great choice for smaller spaces. Stone and ceramic tops are the most resistant to temperature and scratches.
Desk
For working on a laptop, a tabletop of 100–120 cm is sufficient, while for a monitor, 140–160 cm is more comfortable. The standard height is 74–76 cm. You can find a full selection among desks, and complement your setup with an adjustable office chair.
In a small apartment, a narrow desk with a depth of 40–45 cm can serve as a console – placed against the wall, with a lamp and decoration.
What to Place Around the Table
