Panoramic Sofas for Large Living Rooms
A panoramic sofa, also known as a U-shaped sectional, is the most spacious piece of furniture for relaxation. It encompasses the seating area from three sides, allowing everyone to face each other – a layout designed for conversation, not just for watching television.
How Much Space Do You Need?
This piece of furniture is exclusively for large interiors. A typical panoramic sofa measures 280–340 cm in width and 180–220 cm in depth, including the arms, so it requires a living room of at least 25 m² or more.
Before purchasing, it's wise to outline the space with painter's tape on the floor and check two things: whether there is a minimum of 80 cm of passage around it and whether the furniture can fit through the doors and staircase in parts.
Panoramic or Modular?
A panoramic sofa has a fixed shape, so the layout decision is made once. Modular sofas allow you to create a similar structure from separate elements and rearrange them later – a safer choice if you plan to make changes or move.
If the living room is smaller, a classic L-shaped sectional or a sofa paired with an armchair will be more practical.
How to Arrange
A panoramic sofa rarely sits against a wall – it most often defines a relaxation area in the center of the room. Behind it, a console table with lamps works well, completing the layout and providing space for decorations.
In the center, consider placing a large coffee table or two smaller ones, and anchor the whole setup on a suitably large rug – given the scale of the furniture, the rug should accommodate at least the front legs.
Fabrics and Finishes
With such a large upholstery area, color plays a significant role – the furniture will dominate the room. Safer choices are beiges and grays, while character can be added with cushions and a throw, which are easy to change.
