With or Without Elastic?
An elasticized sheet wraps around the mattress and doesn’t slip off at night – this solution is more convenient for everyday use. The depth of the pocket is crucial: it must be greater than the height of the mattress, and for a mattress with a topper, even a few centimeters more.
A non-elastic sheet is universally sized and easier to fold, but it requires tucking under the mattress.
How to Choose the Right Size
Measure the length, width, and height of the mattress – this third dimension is often overlooked and is the most common reason for returns. Pocket mattresses usually have a height of 20–25 cm, while continental mattresses with a topper can be up to 35 cm.
For a non-elastic sheet, add about 40 cm to each dimension to allow for tucking.
Material and Comfort
Percale cotton is cool and withstands frequent washing at high temperatures best. Satin is smoother and more pleasant to the touch, but more delicate. Jersey is stretchy, making it well-suited for taller mattresses.
It’s worth having at least two sets for rotation – sheets are changed more often than duvet covers.
Coherent Bedroom Design
The simplest solution is to choose a sheet in a color similar to the bedding or a neutral white. Complete the look with a bedspread and pillows, while a headboard and bed will set the tone for the rest of the bedroom.
