What Sizes to Choose?
The most popular sizes are 45×45 and 50×50 cm. For a deep sofa and sectional, larger sizes like 55×55 or 60×60 cm are better – smaller ones can get lost on large furniture. It's worth combining two sizes: larger ones at the back, smaller ones at the front.
The insert should be 2–5 cm larger than the cover – only then will the cushion be full and not have empty corners.
How Many Cushions on a Sofa?
For a two-seater sofa, two or three cushions are enough; for a three-seater, three to five; and for a sectional, five to seven. Odd arrangements look more natural than symmetrical pairs.
The key rule: leave space to sit. Cushions should complement the furniture, not occupy it.
How to Mix Patterns and Textures
A tried-and-true scheme is three layers: one smooth cushion in a base color, one with a bold texture – bouclé, corduroy, or velvet – and one patterned. It's worth repeating the pattern in another part of the room, for example, in a throw or rug.
