Console for the Hallway and Living Room

A console is a narrow wall-mounted table that solves a common hallway problem: you need a surface for keys and a lamp, but you don't have space for a dresser. With a depth of 25–40 cm, this furniture doesn't narrow the passage.

What Depth and Height?

In a narrow hallway, choose models with a depth of up to 30 cm – in wider spaces, it can be difficult to pass by the furniture with shopping bags. The standard height is 75–80 cm, which is the same as a table top; taller models make it easier to use while standing.

Leave at least 80 cm of free width for the passage – this is the minimum for the hallway to remain comfortable.

Console in the Hallway

This is the most common use. Above the console, it's worth hanging a mirror – 15–25 cm above the surface, so that both elements read as a whole. On the top, a tray for keys and a table lamp are sufficient, and underneath, a bench or a shoe basket can fit.

Console in the Living Room and Bedroom

In the living room, a console works well behind a sofa placed in the middle of the room – it then creates a natural boundary between zones and provides space for lamps. In the bedroom, it often replaces a vanity, especially models with a drawer.

Marble and metal tops fit into glamour interiors, while wooden ones suit Scandinavian styles. Larger storage furniture can be found among dressers.
