Chaise Longues and Loungers
Chaise longue is a piece of furniture designed for relaxation with extended legs – something between an armchair and a sofa. Unlike an armchair with a footrest, it forms a single unit, so nothing shifts and it doesn't require adjustment.
How much space does it need?
A typical chaise longue measures 150–180 cm in length and 70–90 cm in width. This is more than an armchair, so before purchasing, it's a good idea to lay down painter's tape on the floor in these dimensions to check if the furniture will block the passage.
A chaise longue works well positioned at an angle to a sofa or by a window, creating a designated reading nook. When placed with its back to the room, it also serves as a soft boundary between areas.
With or without armrests?
A model with one armrest provides support for the back when sitting sideways – more comfortable for reading. The version without armrests is visually lighter and fits more easily into smaller spaces.
Pay attention to the side of the construction – just like with sectionals, chaise longues come in left- and right-sided versions.
Fabric and maintenance
A chaise longue is usually used more intensively than a sofa – you lie on it rather than sit – so a tightly woven fabric or leather will perform better than delicate looped materials. Removable covers make maintenance much easier.
Arranging a relaxation corner
Next to the chaise longue, it's worth placing a side table for a book and a floor lamp for reading, all set on a rug. Adding a blanket and cushions will enhance the coziness.
