Night Light — Small Light, Big Difference
A night light is the only source of light you use just before sleep and right after waking up — that's why everything that isn't visible in the picture matters: the height of the shade, the color of the light, and whether the switch is within reach without getting up.
What height should a night light be for a nightstand?
The rule is simple: the bottom edge of the shade should be at eye level for a person sitting in bed. With a typical nightstand height of 50–55 cm, this means a lamp height of 40–50 cm. A higher lamp can be blinding, while a lower one shines onto the surface. For a night table without drawers, which is usually lower, choose a model that is 5–10 cm taller.
Light that doesn't wake you
For the bedroom, choose a warm color, 2700–3000 K — neutral and cool tones inhibit melatonin production and make it harder to fall asleep. A dimmer or touch switch allows you to reduce the brightness to a few percent for reading without waking the other person. More and more models come with a USB port for charging your phone and portable battery versions that you can move from the nightstand to the windowsill without searching for an outlet.
Night light for children
In a child's room, safety is a priority: a stable, heavier base that cannot be knocked over, an LED source that doesn't heat up, and soft, diffused light through a fabric or frosted glass shade. A warm color and dimmer help with the bedtime ritual — the lamp can glow minimally throughout the night.
Alternatives: wall sconce and portable lamp
If the nightstand is narrow, a wall sconce on both sides of the bed frees up the surface and won't tip over — however, it requires installation. Battery lamps combine the advantages of both: no cables, full mobility.
Frequently Asked Questions
What night light for a small nightstand?
A model with a base up to 15 cm in diameter or a wall sconce instead of a lamp. Check if there is still room for a book and phone.
What wattage bulb?
For reading, 300–450 lumens (equivalent to a 25–40 W traditional bulb) is sufficient. The ability to dim is more important.
Two identical or different?
A pair of identical lamps creates a symmetrical order in the bedroom; different models look good when connected by color or material.
Larger models for dressers and living rooms can be found in the table lamps collection, and the entire sleep zone arrangement — with beds 160x200 — in the bedroom collection. The full lighting offer is in the lamps collection. Free delivery for orders over 1000 PLN, showroom in Warsaw.
