Dining Chairs — Comfort at the Longer Table
A dining chair differs from a regular chair in one key aspect: armrests and a wider seat. This changes the way you spend time at the table — during a two-hour dinner, the difference is noticeable.
Dimensions — The Key Numbers
The seat height should be 45–48 cm, and the distance between the seat and the tabletop should be 28–32 cm. With a standard table height of 75 cm, this rule always applies.
Key note: the armrests must fit under the tabletop. Measure the distance from the floor to the underside of the tabletop and compare it with the height of the armrest — otherwise, the chair will be pushed away from the table.
How Many Chairs at the Table?
Count 65–70 cm width per chair — more than with regular chairs, as the armrests take up space. At a 180 cm table, four chairs will fit along the side, not five regular chairs.
Chairs Only at the Ends
A popular solution: two chairs at the ends of the table, chairs on the sides. This creates a representative effect, saves space, and costs less than a full set of chairs.
Fabric — The Practical Side
In the dining area, cleaning matters. Fabrics with a tight weave and waterproof finish handle spills well; leather and faux leather are the easiest to maintain. Light velvet looks beautiful but requires discipline.
Dining Chairs — Frequently Asked Questions
What is the chair height for a 75 cm table?
Seat height 45–48 cm. This leaves about 30 cm for legs — a comfortable standard.
Do the chairs have to match the chairs?
No. A common upholstery color or leg finish is enough to make the dining area look cohesive.
Chair or Armchair?
An armchair has a wider seat and a deeper backrest. In a small dining area, a chair with armrests works better.
