Mattresses for Your Bed
The mattress influences the quality of your sleep more than the bed itself, and it is typically replaced every eight to ten years. When choosing, it's important to consider three parameters: the type of spring filling, firmness, and height.
Pocket, Foam, or Latex?
Pocket mattresses have springs enclosed in individual pockets that move independently – they provide excellent support and limit motion transfer, making them ideal for two people of different weights. They also offer the best ventilation.
Foam mattresses conform to your body shape and absorb movement most effectively, but they tend to retain more heat. Latex mattresses combine elasticity with good ventilation and are naturally resistant to dust mites.
What Firmness?
Firmness should be chosen based on weight, not preference. As a guideline: for around 60 kg, a soft or medium mattress is suitable; for 60–90 kg, a medium mattress; and for over 90 kg, a firm mattress.
A mattress that is too soft allows the hips to sink deeper than the rest of the body, putting strain on the lumbar region. A mattress that is too firm does not fill the natural curves and can press on the shoulders when sleeping on your side.
Height and Bed Frame
Pocket mattresses typically measure 20–25 cm, while foam mattresses are 16–22 cm. Check the height together with the bed frame – with a deep frame, a mattress that is too low can disappear inside, and with a shallow frame, a mattress that is too high can stick out above the headboard.
Also, remember about the fitted sheet: the pocket must be deeper than the height of the mattress.
Complete Bedroom
Pair your mattress with bedding and a bedspread, and enhance the area around the bed with nightstands and wall lamps. You can find the entire arrangement in the Bedroom collection.
