&Tradition — Danish design between the archive and the future
&Tradition was founded in 2010 in Copenhagen with a simple premise: the best designs of the past deserve a new life, and the best contemporary designers deserve a brand that gives them freedom. In one catalog, reissues from the 1930s to the 1960s, produced based on original sketches, meet premieres created by the leading studios of our time. Hence the name: “&” connects tradition with what is yet to come.
Flowerpot — the lamp that became an icon
The most recognizable design in the catalog is the Flowerpot lamp by Verner Panton from 1968: two hemispheres with perfect proportions, a symbol of the flower power era, today one of the most frequently chosen lamps for Polish interiors. In the collection, you will find it in several versions: VP1 is the hanging version for above the table and island, VP3 — the table version, perfect as a bedside lamp on a dresser, and VP9 — portable, with a battery and dimmer, which you can move from your desk to the terrace without searching for a socket. Classics: Boesen, Jacobsen, Lassen
The second icon of the brand is the Little Petra VB1 armchair by Viggo Boesen from 1938 — a compact, enveloping shape that, in the version with sheepskin, has become one of the most desired armchairs of the decade. The catalog is complemented by designs from Arne Jacobsen, including his debut lamp Bellevue from 1929 with its characteristically slanted shade, as well as joint works by Jacobsen and Flemming Lassen from competitions in the 1930s.
Contemporary designers
A new wave is represented by, among others, Space Copenhagen — creators of soft, sculptural sofas and lounge chairs, including the modular sofa Develius — and Jaime Hayón, whose paper lanterns Formakami combine Japanese lightness with Spanish temperament. Finnish-Swedish designer Sami Kallio added the In Between chair, bent from wood in the spirit of Scandinavian craftsmanship.
