Office and Study – Work Furniture
Your home workspace must balance two things: ergonomics and the fact that it’s in a living area. Therefore, it’s worth choosing furniture with a subdued design, without sacrificing adjustability, which is crucial for comfort after several hours of use.
Ergonomics – Start with the Chair
The order is the opposite of what most assume: first, adjust your chair so that your feet are flat on the floor and your knees are bent at about a 90-degree angle. Only then check if the desk height is appropriate.
The lumbar support should fit the natural curve of your spine, and there should be enough space for a hand between the edge of the seat and the bend of your knees.
Desk
For working on a laptop, a desk with a top size of 100–120 cm is sufficient, while for a monitor, it’s more comfortable to work with a size of 140–160 cm. A depth of 60–80 cm allows you to position the screen at the right distance. The standard height is 74–76 cm.
In a small apartment, a narrow model with a depth of 40–45 cm can serve a dual purpose – as a desk and as a console against the wall.
Lighting at the Workspace
Light should come from the side, not from behind – this way, it won’t reflect on the screen. A lamp with an adjustable arm or a floor lamp next to the desk will work well. Choose a neutral color temperature of around 4000 K for work.
General lighting will be provided by a ceiling lamp – working solely with a desk lamp can strain your eyes due to contrast.
Storage and Organization
Documents and accessories can be organized with shelves, dressers, and containers, and a shelf above the desk is useful – leave 40–50 cm of space from the top to reach comfortably.
Office as a Room
If you have a separate room, it’s worth creating a relaxation area – a chair with a reading lamp transforms the office into a space where you can think, not just check off tasks. A rug and plants will warm up the entire space.

What type of lamp is best for work?
One with an adjustable arm, positioned to the side, with a neutral color temperature of around 4000 K.
