Care for stone and mineral materials
Natural beauty that lasts for years
Natural stone and mineral materials have long been among the most valued materials used in contemporary interiors. Marble, travertine, granite, terrazzo, architectural concrete, and mineral conglomerates stand out for their exceptional durability, unique patterns, and noble character, which gains even greater depth over time.
Each stone element is unique. Natural veining, subtle color differences, or slight irregularities are characteristics of the material and attest to its authenticity. To keep surfaces looking elegant for many years, it is worth following a few simple daily care principles.
Although stone is an extremely durable material, not all types exhibit the same resistance to moisture, acids, or stains. Proper cleaning and regular maintenance can effectively reduce the risk of discoloration, scratches, and loss of natural shine.
Daily care
For regular cleaning, a soft microfiber cloth lightly dampened with water or a solution of a gentle stone care product is sufficient. The surface should be cleaned with gentle, circular motions without excessive pressure.
After washing, it is always a good idea to wipe the surface dry. This will help you avoid streaks and deposits from the minerals in the water.
Quickly remove stains
Stone, especially marble and travertine, can absorb certain substances. Therefore, any spilled liquids should be removed immediately after they occur.
This particularly applies to:
- coffee,
- tea,
- red wine,
- fruit juices,
- fats,
- cosmetics,
- perfumes.
Do not leave wet items or damp fabrics on the surface for an extended period.
Use appropriate cleaning agents
For stone care, use only products designed for natural stone or mineral materials.
Safe products are those with a neutral pH that effectively remove dirt without damaging the material's structure.
Before using a new product, it is always advisable to test it in an inconspicuous area.
What to avoid?
Do not use:
- bleaches,
- chlorine,
- ammonia,
- products containing acids,
- stone removal products,
- abrasive creams,
- cleaning powders,
- wire sponges,
- rough brushes.
They can lead to permanent dulling of the surface, damage to the sealant, or discoloration.
Protect the surface from scratches
Despite its durability, stone can be scratched during everyday use.
To prevent this:
- Use coasters under dishes and decorations.
- Use felt pads under decorative items.
- Do not slide heavy objects directly across the surface.
- Avoid striking with sharp edges.
Avoid high temperatures
Do not place very hot pots, pans, or dishes directly on the surface.
Sudden temperature changes can cause material stress and damage the protective layer.
Always use heat-insulating pads.
Regular sealing
Most natural stones require periodic sealing.
Sealer creates an invisible protective layer that limits moisture and dirt penetration and facilitates daily maintenance.
The frequency of sealing depends on the type of stone and the intensity of use, but it is generally recommended to do so every 12–24 months or according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
Materials such as quartz sinters or some aggregates usually do not require additional sealing.
Care for different materials
Marble
Marble is an elegant material but relatively sensitive to acids. It requires regular sealing and prompt stain removal.
Travertine
Due to its more porous structure, travertine particularly benefits from systematic sealing. This helps protect the surface from moisture.
Granite
Granite is one of the most durable natural stones. It is more resistant to scratches and stains, but it is also worth maintaining regularly.
Terrazzo
Terrazzo is a very durable material, but gentle, pH-neutral cleaning agents should be used for its care.
Architectural concrete
Concrete may have natural discolorations and tonal differences. This is a characteristic feature, not a product flaw. Regular dust removal and sealing help maintain its aesthetics.
Aggregates and mineral materials
Most modern mineral materials are highly resistant to everyday use. Regular cleaning with a soft cloth and avoiding aggressive chemicals is sufficient.
Longevity begins with proper care
Stone and mineral materials are designed for long-term use. Regular maintenance, appropriately chosen cleaning agents, and daily care will help preserve their natural beauty, color depth, and unique texture for many years.
Natural materials mature with the interior, which is why small signs of use often become part of their character, highlighting authenticity and a timeless look.
